World Diabetes Day: Managing Diabetes and how to get rid of it ?



World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on 14th November with the intent of raising awareness about diabetes. This year’s theme is ‘The Family and Diabetes’!

Diabetes is a condition that occurs due to high levels of glucose in the human bloodstream. It occurs when the body doesn’t produce an adequate amount of insulin. Most common forms are diabetes are – Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

This World Diabetes Day, we bring you some ways that you should follow to prevent it:

  1. The first step is knowing your blood sugar level. If your age is above 30 years then, you should get your blood sugar levels checked at regular intervals.
  2. Eat a balanced and healthy diet. You need to reduce the high intake of carbohydrates food. Also, reduce fat content in your diet. One should also reduce the intake of salt and sugar. Avoid processed foods whenever possible.
  3. Exercise regularly and don’t live a sedentary lifestyle. Practice Yoga.
  4. Minimise alcohol and tobacco intake. Quit smoking.
  5. Reduce stress by practising meditation and listening to soothing music.
