Byomkesh On HoiChoi has already started streaming since October 14, 2017. The first 2 episodes are now available on the HoiChoi platform. Time for us to review those 2 episodes.
Detective Byomkesh Bakshi is a popular Bengali fictional detective character created by Shardindu Bandhopadhyay. Whenever we think about Bomkesh Bakshi, the first thing that comes to our mind is the Kolkata (or Calcutta) of the 1930s. The production house has done a wonderful job to recreate the Kolkata of the 1930s. The episodes are kept crisp and are produced as per the original stories. The crisp episodes are enough to grab the eyeballs of the viewers and maintain the immersive viewing experience until the last moment. There were moments that left us at the edge of our seats.
The most interesting part that we have seen is the amalgamation of two stories to form a single episode of 55 to 60 minutes. The first episode is an adaptation of the following two stories – ‘Satyanweshi’ and ‘Pother Kanta’. In this episode, Byomkesh meets Ajit and they catch the head of the gang who supplies drugs. In the next part, the duo goes on to solve the mystery of ‘Gramophone Pin’ murder.
The second episode is an adaptation of the following two stories – ‘Makorshar Rosh’ and ‘Arthamanartham’. In this episode, Byomkesh is seen solving the mystery of a murder case where he meets Satybati, with whom he falls in love. Whereas, Ajit is trying to work out how Nandadulal is getting Tarantula juice even when he is kept under surveillance.
The stories sound interesting, doesn’t it? And if you don’t understand Bengali. Then, no worries. The episodes are packed with English subtitles. So, go ahead and Happy Viewing!
We give it 9.2/10.
