Kalighat Temple
Kalighat is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, where various parts of Sati’s body is said to have fallen during Shiva’s Rudra Tandava. According to the Legends, the right toe of Sati fell at this place. There’s a sacred water body called Kundupukur inside the temple complex whose water is considered as holy as river Ganga.
Victoria Memorial Hall
The Victoria Memorial Hall was built in memory of Queen Victoria by the then Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon. Presently, it is India’s largest and one of the oldest Museums. The monument is surrounded by lush greenery and the grand architecture is worth seeing.
St. Paul’s Cathedral
St. Paul’s Cathedral is well known for its ‘Indo – Gothic’ architecture, Gothic architectural style built to meet the climatic conditions of India. It is the largest cathedral in the city and the first cathedral to be built in the overseas territory of British Empire. It is also Asia’s first Episcopal Church.
Indian Museum
The Indian Museum (Jadu Ghar) is the oldest and the largest Museum in India. Founded in 1814, the Museum features rare collections of antiques, armour and ornaments, fossils, skeletons, mummies, and Mughal paintings.
Princep Ghat
A beautified riverfront built along the Kolkata bank of Hooghly river. It is one of the oldest recreational spots of the city. It is a beautiful place for an evening stroll.
Eco Park
Eco Park is Kolkata’s newest tourism spot. It is spread across 480 acres plot and is surrounded by a 104 acres waterbody with an island in the middle. The park is divided into various parts reflecting various ecological zones. Therefore, it is also known as Prakriti Tirtha (Nature pilgrimage).
Jorasanko Thakurbari
Jorasanko Thakur Bari, Kobiguru Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral house is situated inside Rabindra Bharati University. The house has been turned into a Museum dedicated to the life and works of Gurudev Tagore.
