[Movie Review] Uri: The Surgical Strike

Uri: The Surgical Strike is based on the events of 2016, where the Indian Army avenged a deadly terrorist attack at Uri Army base camp in Kashmir, by carrying out a surgical strike on the enemy. This is the most successful covert operation carried out by the Indian army to date.

The Uri film reminded me of the film ‘Border’, released in 1997. Some could also relate it to ‘Zero Dark Thirty’. It’s the best movie to start the New Year 2019. This movie is about New India.

Yeh naya Hindusthan hai, yeh ghar mein ghusega bhi aur marega bhi.

The Uri film also gave us a new definition of a leader. A leader is someone who always keeps his team’s morale high. So, How’s the Josh? HIGH SIR!

When the movie was being played out, there was pin-drop silence in the theatre. Everybody was curious to know what was going to happen in the next scene…

The first half of the Uri film will make you cry. But, in the second half, it will make you feel proud – proud of the Indian Army and you’ll come out with that pride. The best part of the Uri film is that it’s simple and straight forward. It’s the most realistic Bollywood movie that I’ve ever seen. Acting, cinematography, dialogue delivery and screenplay were well coordinated in the film. While talking about cinematography, I would like to tell you that the movie gives you an immersive experience. You’ll feel that you are watching everything sitting inside the war room. I liked the drone-camera scenes.

Plot

The film talks about how 21 para SF (Special Forces) commandos crossed the LoC (Line-of-Control) killing around 160 terrorists. The Uri film also throws some light on the challenges faced by the security and intelligence agencies.

In the film, we see Major Vihaan Singh Shergill (Vicky Kaushal) returning from his premature retirement after one of his close friends got killed in the Uri terror attack. He returned and led the mission to neutralise the terrorists.

How can I forget the lines said by NSA Ajit Doval (Paresh Rawal) in the movie? “Yeh naya Hindusthan hai, yeh ghar mein ghusega bhi aur marega bhi” (This is New India, it will not only enter the house [of enemies]  but will also kill them”.

The scenes had me on the edge of the seat…
