Why Pune is the best place to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi?

The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with vigour across Maharashtra. However, the festivities across cities differ in grandeur and decibel levels. For a taste of the most authentic Ganpati celebrations and madness, Pune is the best place to be. Every year, Punekars look forward to it with far more eagerness and enthusiasm than the rest of the country.

Not just the high-octane celebrations, Pune also witness the most eco-friendly Ganpati Visarjans, thanks to Vodafone India’s #GoodinGoodbyes initiative. Since 2017, Vodafone stores have been hosting eco-friendly visarjan for Punekars. Walk into your nearest Vodafone store with your Ganesh idol and be a part of this eco-friendly initiative.

Here are three reasons why one shouldn’t miss the celebrations in Pune:

  • Pune is the origin land of the Ganesha festival: It all began with the Peshwas celebrating the festival as a private family affair dedicated to their family deity. It is said that Shivaji Maharaj initiated the festival to promote culture in the state.
  • The best dose of culture and grandeur: Pune is home to five of the most sacrosanct Ganpati mandals which have special places in every Punekar’s heart. More than hundred-year-old, idols of Kasbapeth, Tambadi Jogeshwari, Guruji Talim, Tulshibaug and Kesariwada drive Pune’s festive tradition till date.

  • Eco-Friendly visarjans- the Only city to have Vodafone Eco-Ponds: Ganpati idols are taken away for visarjan with grandeur as citizens, young and old, bid adieu to their beloved deity for another year. Vodafone stores in Pune have tied-up with PMC and NCL to provide eco-friendly visarjan ponds where idols are disintegrated into fertilizers. This eco-friendly Ganesh visarjan initiative by Vodafone is truly #GoodinGoodbyes, isn’t it?

Wish you all a very Happy Ganesh Chaturthi.

      and Eco-friendly too.

  2. I liked the concept of Vodofone Eco ponds. They should implement in more cities.

  3. We need more such environment friendly festivals and initiatives.

  4. I like more about the eco friendly visarjans. We need more such practises these days, as we are polluting more in the name of festivals. Earlier when the festivals have started thats not the case.

  5. Eco friendly Ganesh Visarjan is a step towards conservation of environment.

  6. I was not aware that the history of Ganpati celebrations dates back to medieval period. I just knew that it was Lokmanya Tilak who had initiated the festival to be celebrated in large scale. And this idea of EcoFriendly visarjan is such a noble initiative. Hope this reaches to many other cities.
