Cell phone addiction – its effects and remedies

Mobile phones and the Internet have become an indispensable part of our lives. Both have made our lives easier. Before I proceed, let me ask you a few questions: Do you check your phone frequently? Do you check your phone while meeting your family & friends? Are you keeping your phone beside your pillow while sleeping? Do you pick up your phone without any reason? If the answer to these questions is yes, then, you are a victim of cell phone addiction. A majority of us are becoming a victim of cell phone addiction without even being aware of it which is very alarming.

For many people, checking their phones is the first and the last thing they do every day. Cell phone addiction leads to anxiety, tension and various physical problems. It also affects their productivity. When staying online on the Internet becomes an addiction then, one must attend digital detoxification camps to get rid of this addiction. When one attends these camps, they need to stay away from their digital devices. By doing, so they can have a ‘digital-break’ and can spend some time with themselves.

Digital detox camps help one to get rid of Nomophobia (No Mobile phone phobia) and FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). Nomophobia is the fear of being without your mobile phone. People suffering from Nomophobia gets tensed when their phone’s battery becomes very low or when their phone goes out of network coverage. FOMO is a fear that a person may miss out on important events. Recently, tech giant, Google has launched urged people to forget FOMO and welcome JOMO (Joy Of Missing Out).

Studies have found that people who spent more time in their ‘digital life’ are found to be unhappy in their real life. If you suddenly feel that your phone is ringing when it is not ringing, then you might be suffering from Phantom ringing syndrome or Ringxiety.

How to get rid of cell phone addiction?

Before using any technology we must remember that we are their masters, not slaves. I am sharing a few simple tips to help you get rid of this addiction:

  • Don’t touch your mobile phone when not required.
  • Stop using your mobile phone for an hour before you go to sleep.
  • Keep your mobile phone away from you when you are sleeping.
  • Install apps that allows you to set usage restrictions.
  • Attend digital detox camps.

THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT: We should not forget to miss the precious moments of life in every small act that we perform every day.

Spend quality time with your near and dear ones and live life happily!
