[LIVE BLOG] After 4 month break, PM Modi’s first Mann Ki Baat of 2nd term to air today

After a 4-month break, Prime Minister Narendra’s radio programme Modi Mann Ki Baat will resume today. This will be the first Mann Ki Baat programme in PM Modi’s second consecutive term as the Prime Minister of India. The last episode of Mann Ki Baat was aired on February 24, 2019, days before the Lok Sabha elections were announced. In that episode, Prime Minister had suspended the show for March and April. While doing so, he said that he was doing Confident of his return, PM said that the next episode of Mann Ki Baat will be aired on the last Sunday of May 2019. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the programme was going to resume on June 30 at 11 AM. “30th June, Sunday at 11:00 AM… We will meet once again thanks to the radio, share joy, positivity and celebrate the collective strength of 130 crore Indians. There is another fact pertaining to these Elections, that swells our hearts with pride. Perhaps, this is the first time ever, that women have enthusiastically voted, as much as men did. This time the ratio of men & women who voted was almost the same.

To ensure that no voter was deprived of his or her voting rights, there were around 10 lakh polling stations, more than 40 lakh EVM machines, over 17 lakh VVPAT machines. You can imagine the gargantuan task!

To successfully conduct General Elections 2019, close to 3 lakh paramilitary personnel discharged their duty; 20 lakh Police personnel too, persevered. It is on account of these people that voting took place on a larger scale compared to the previous Election.

The 2019 Lok Sabha Elections in history by far, was the largest democratic Election ever held in the world. This stands for the sheer size & spread of our Democracy .

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, India saw over 61 crore voters exercising their franchise. If I place it in a global perspective, if you exclude China, the number of people who voted in India exceeds the population of any other country in the world.
